About Servants In Hawthorn |
|
Servants in Hawthorn Inc (Servants) is a not for profit organisation with a close affiliation to Hawthorn West Baptist Church. Servants has been an incorporated association since 1987. The main task of Servants is the management of Carrical Rooming House, located in Mason Street, Hawthorn.
In 2008 Servants is in it’s 20st year of providing low cost accommodation to 37 income eligible, single people. In November 2007 the Housing Registrar registered Servants as a Housing Provider.
Other activities of Servants involve arranging and overseeing the Attendant Care and Home Help needs of a paraplegic gentleman and running a Shared House for young students coming from rural areas of Victoria to study in Melbourne.
Previously, Servants has been involved in running a GP’s surgery, handyman service and a gardening service. The key theme running through all ventures undertaken by Servants is that of ‘serving our local community’.

The greatest strength of Servants lies in the calibre of the people who represent the organisation in a paid or voluntary capacity.
The staff and Committee are collectively a group who possess high levels of care, professionalism, competence, energy and high ethical values which are essential to serving well Servants client group.
Despite its relatively small size Servants is an incredibly well respected and networked organisation within both the local area of the City of Boroondara, and the community housing sector. Servants has an intimate understanding of the needs of its client group and has a well-established and proven history in linking clients into appropriate services.
Servants has a great understanding in how to operate a successful small business for the betterment of individuals who exist within the lower ranges of the socio-economic demographic, particularly those coping with mental health issues.
Operating as a not for profit organisation, Servants has developed a great understanding of how to maximise the use of available resources within DHS, local Council and the local community.
Servants is committed to establishing accommodation that encourages community and serves people well. The thriving community at Carrical House, is testimony to the success of Servants preferred model for Community Housing. The model consists of a rooming house where meals are provided in a communal dining room. It has both indoor and out door community areas with comfortable seating combined with recreational equipment to encourage interaction between residents and visitors.
